Ranking 14 Final Rank 19 Stats: Our Thoughts: Not much has changed since our draft profile of Anderberg other than he had some reps with the Swedish Under-20 squad at the Summer Showcase. The fact that he was invited bodes well for his potential inclusion with the national team in December for the World Juniors. It would be another nice accomplishment for the Bolts’ fifth-round pick. There isn’t a lot of sexiness in Anderberg’s game, but he does a lot of things really well. His positioning in the defensive zone is solid, he is willing to engage along the boards to fight for the puck, and his speed on the ice is his biggest asset. The 18-year-old isn’t going to win a scoring title, but he is going to annoy a lot of defensemen on the forecheck over the next few years. Anderberg isn’t likely to join the Crunch or the Lightning any time soon. He’ll have a few years to develop his game in the SHL, starting this year with a bigger role with the Vaxjo Lakers. Last season he took advantage of some injuries on the team to earn a spot in the bottom-six. As the season went on, he earned the trust of his coaching staff and saw more and more playing time. The offense didn’t quite blossom (despite being on a line with former Syracuse Crunch forward Felix Robert), but that could change this year now that he has a little more familiarity with the league. Like a lot of younger players, especially sub-6’0″ forwards, he needs to work on his strength. Watching some of his shifts shows that opponents were able to push him off of the puck or out of position in front of the net. That led him to relying more on stick-checking than trying to separate players from the puck physically. Adding strength to his skating ability will make him an even more effective forechecker, which will increase his chances of making it to the NHL. Offensively, his shot is okay, as his decision making. The instincts are there, but he has to refine his passing to start putting up some more points. This will be an interesting season for him to see if he can make the jump from defensive forward to a true two-way forward. Anderberg is a bit of a project and it will take some time to see what his future in the organization will be. Still, there are a lot of good tools in his toolbox that can help a NHL team. It was a pass, but it was a pretty nice play and he was rewarded for it. The drive to the near post opened things up for his teammate, and had the backhand pass not hit the goaltender, it might have been a tap-in goal on the far post. There aren’t a lot of highlights on the social media channels for Anderberg, but here is a nice clip of some of his plays. A lot of what he does well doesn’t show up on the highlight reels. That could change as he ages and plays with more confidence. One thing that does show up in these highlights is how easy he gets up to top speed. There is a nice effortlessness in his stride.
