Episode Description
Summary
On today’s episode of The Sheet with Jeff Marek, Jeff is joined by NHL agent Ian Pulver to go inside the brand-new contract extension for his client, Tristan Luneau, who signed a six-year, $43.2 million deal with the Anaheim Ducks. Pulver explains what went into getting the deal done, why NHL general managers are increasingly looking to lock up their young players before their prices climb, what the Ducks see in Luneau and how Anaheim’s eventful summer helped shape the negotiation. They also discuss the ripple effects of the Leo Carlsson offer sheet, Anaheim’s decision to match it, Pavel Mintyukov’s new contract, the changing RFA market and what life is like negotiating contracts in today’s NHL.
Then, Brian Burke makes his first appearance of the season to give his perspective on the changing NHL landscape. The longtime NHL executive discusses the rise of player empowerment, how contract negotiations have evolved, the challenges facing modern general managers, offer sheets and how he would have approached a situation like Anaheim’s, plus his early impressions from around the league.
Finally, Adam Copeland joins Jeff to talk about his career in professional wrestling, what he’s working on now, his journey through WWE and AEW, and his lifelong love of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
