Summary
Mike DiStefano is BACK from his honeymoon, and there's a lot to catch up on! With the Toronto Maple Leafs 17 games into the season, Mike and David Morassutti take a temperature check on where the team stands after a roller-coaster stretch that included a four-game winning streak, an impressive win over the Edmonton Oilers, frustrating losses to Calgary and Seattle, and plenty of questions surrounding the team's consistency. The guys dig into Gavin McKenna's adjustment to the NHL, his reduced ice time and whether Jim Hiller is giving the young forward enough opportunities. They also assess Sergei Bobrovsky's inconsistent start, how much responsibility belongs to the goaltender versus the defensive play in front of him, and why the Leafs need to give him more support. There's plenty of good news, too. Easton Cowan continues to earn the coaching staff's trust, while Auston Matthews looks like the superstar Toronto needs him to be, producing at an incredible pace and building chemistry with Jack Roslovic. The guys also discuss William Nylander's recent struggles and what he needs to do to get back on track ahead of Saturday's big matchup against the Montreal Canadiens. Plus, Mike previews the Toronto Sport Card Expo, including the current Maple Leafs players scheduled to make appearances and sign autographs this weekend. What do you think of the Leafs after 17 games? Is Auston Matthews officially back, and should Jim Hiller be giving Gavin McKenna more ice time?
