Summary
The Maple Leafs fell 3-2 to the Ottawa Senators, dropping Toronto to 1-2 to start the season and after three games, there are some legitimate questions about Gavin McKenna and the Leafs' second line.Mike DiStefano and Dave Morassutti break down McKenna's slow start and the bigger problem with the entire McKenna-Tavares-Nylander line. Through three games, the trio has struggled badly at 5-on-5, spending too much time in its own zone and failing to generate enough offensive opportunities. Is it time for Jim Hiller to make a change? The guys debate whether Easton Cowan should temporarily swap places with McKenna, giving the rookie a chance to play with Nick Paul and Colton Sissons while potentially giving the second line more defensive stability and puck-possession ability. But it's not all bad news.Auston Matthews scored his first goal of the season, Kirill Marchenko scored his first as a Maple Leaf, and the power play showed some encouraging signs. The guys also discuss Toronto's struggles breaking through the neutral zone and why teams could start exploiting that if the Leafs can't find a solution.Plus, it's time to separate the overreactions from the legitimate concerns after three games. Is Easton Cowan already looking like a breakout star? Should the Leafs change the Rielly-Raddysh pairing? And is the team's revamped bottom six and penalty kill already proving to be a major positive? And at the end of the show, breaking news: Alex Ovechkin announces that the 2026-27 season will be his final NHL season. The Great 8 is chasing Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal-scoring record in his final season and the Leafs will see Ovechkin in Toronto later this season.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!OdooGreat organizations win because operations matter.
