Summary

Lightning News The Tampa Bay Lightning are playing in back-to-back games in the Mountain West, starting tonight in Denver and tomorrow in Salt Lake City. The Bolts are wrapping up a quick trip through the Central Division and then return for one more home game in October next Thursday against Winnipeg at Benchmark where the Lightning can go undefeated this month. Check back later for the Game Previews on Raw Charge. Nikita Kucherov tied franchise legend Steven Stamkos in Las Vegas on Tuesday with his 1,137th point with Tampa Bay. It was both a milestone and highlight reel goal. Kucherov’s next point will pass Stamkos as the franchise leader in points and it will be a very long time until anyone passes him. Enjoy greatness, folks. In the latest episode the two went shuffle boarding at Shuffle in Tampa. If you’re looking to hear his story or just want to know the rules of shuffle board, it’s worth a watch. [ New In Blue ] Ron Duguay’s playing career spanned 864 games, mostly with the New York Rangers. He put up 620 points (274 goals, 346 assists) and is one of the few players in NHL history who can say he played on the same teams as Phil Esposito, Mario Lemieux, and Wayne Gretzky. He was also in the Lightning’s inaugural training camp as he attempted a comeback that was cut short by injuries. Duguay passed away on Sunday at the age of 69 [ Tampa Bay Times] League News The Lighting will be facing the Avalanche today after the Avs returned from a winless two-game road trip in Philadelphia and New Jersey. Colorado will be looking to avenge that road trip back in Denver tonight against Tampa Bay after a tough loss in Newark on Tuesday. [ Mile High Hockey ] Brady Tkachuk’s return to Ottawa went about as perfect as could be for Senators fans in attendance. It didn’t start that way as Tkachuk scored a power-play goal to open the scoring in the first period but the Senators quickly responded and then some. Ottawa scored the last five goals in a raucous atmosphere that featured many chants by the fans that I don’t think Justin would let me quote here. Ottawa got the first laugh in this new never-ending battle. [ NHL ] It wasn’t all good news for Senators fans as goaltender Linus Ullmark was injured on a seemingly harmless play against Florida on Wednesday. Head coach Travis Green informed reporters that Ullmark will be out a week or two with a lower body strain. Ullmark is 7-1 with a .945 SV% and 1.33 GAA in 8 games. The Senators have called up old friend Jonas Johansson to pair with Samuel Ersson in net for Ottawa until Ullmark can return. [ yahoo! ] Speaking of old friends finding their way back to the NHL, the New York Rangers have signed 37-year-old Luke Glendening to a one-year contract. He participated in training camp with the Lightning on a PTO. Glendening recently played 158 games in two seasons with Tampa Bay and played 70 games last year with New Jersey and Philadelphia. He’s going to know that tri-state area pretty well now. [ Sports Illustrated ]
