Raw Charge
Summary
The Tampa Bay Lightning are making their first recall of the season, and it’s not Dominic James. While they are expected to officially recall the speedy forward soon, he will not be in the line-up for the game against the New York Rangers on Tuesday. Instead, the Bolts added some more size to the goaltending crease as they recalled 6’7″ Mads Sogaard from the Syracuse Crunch. The 25-year-old netminder has appeared in three games this season (started two) with a 1-1-0 record, .937 SV%, and 1.73 GAA. Signed as a free agent this summer, the native of Aalborg, Denmark does have some NHL experience under his belt as he has seen action in 31 games, all with the Ottawa Senators, and posted a 12-11-3 record with a 3.60 GAA, and .877 SV%. The bulk of his playing time came in the 2022-23 season when he had a 8-6-3 record in 19 games with a 3.32 GAA and .889 SV%. With Brandon Halverson and Ryan Fanti moving on to new organizations this summer, the Lightning signed Sogaard and Olivier Rodrique to share the goaltending duties in Syracuse. Through the first two weekends, they have split the starts so far. Prospect Harrison Meneghin was recalled from Orlando to the Crunch on Monday, and could see action if Sogaard is in Tampa for any length of time. At this point there is no information on if Andrei Vasilevskiy or Dennis Hildeby are nursing an injury or feeling under the weather. Eduardo Encina of the Tampa Bay Times believes that Vasilevskiy will still get the start tonight. Mads Sogaard is with the #GoBolts this morning for skate. Don’t think he will need to dress. Still think Vasilevskiy will start tonight. — Eduardo A. Encina (@EddieInTheYard) October 13, 2026 Update [4:45 pm] Encina posted an article this afternoon that brings a touch more clarity to the situation. Apparently Hildeby is dealing with an “undisclosed physical issue” and might not be able to suit up for the game. As the Tampa Bay Times reporter points out, it doesn’t appear to be too serious of and issue as Hildeby was on the ice for the optional skate this morning. Since the team has the cap space and roster flexibility it seems like they are taking advantage of it.
