Summary
The Standings Lie: 3 Monsters, 3 Frauds
Who's the best team in hockey? You'd think the standings tell you. They don't. By the chances they create and give up, the four best teams in the NHL this year are Carolina, New Jersey, Minnesota and Utah, and three teams near the top of the standings are faking it.
I break down the system each team plays on film, from Carolina's man-to-man pressure to New Jersey's forecheck hiding Connor Hellebuyck, why Minnesota should scare the whole West, and why Seattle, Boston and Edmonton are winning on borrowed goals. Plus Mike Babcock's 2016 quote about McDavid's ice time, now that McDavid is playing more than ever. Is your team one of the new monsters, or one of the frauds?
