The Untaught Stickhandling Mechanics You Need To Know

Summary

Welcome to Precise Puck Control.

There’s a reason we call this puck control and not just stickhandling.

Stickhandling usually refers to isolated mechanics like moving the puck around cones or in drills disconnected and from real gameplay. Puck control, in our context, is different. It’s the conscious ability to move the puck exactly where you want, at the speed you want, while your skating, shooting, and deception mechanics are fully integrated.

At Train 2.0, we teach it as part of a complete movement system.

The truth: isolated stickhandling doesn’t transfer to games. You might develop quick hands. You might look smooth in drills. But without integrating footwork, balance, posture, and skating mechanics, you’ll be missing that puck on a string look in-game.

We’ve all seen players with “great hands” who somehow struggle in games. That disconnect happens when puck skills are trained without mechanical awareness or integration. Repeating the same patterns around cones without adjusting mechanics can actually reinforce bad habits instead of building elite control.

Our goal with this system is to give you a language for puck control: a mechanical framework you can understand, feel, and adjust. When you combine awareness with deliberate repetition, you build mastery.

Inside this course, you’ll learn:

1) How elite NHL players integrate skating, handling, and deception.

2) What mechanical adjustments create real control at top speed.

3) How to systematically close the gaps in your own puck control.

4) How to create more options in more situations during games.
